[And, this is a very non-canon Shinichi, to be seen floating cross-legged with his eyes shut in the middle of the lobby. If you've seen the Star Wars prequels, you might recognise the brown Jedi robes and leather tunic as being padawan wear, and most notably for his rank, the braid that hung down over his shoulder onto his front.

After just a moment hovering there, he opens his eyes with a snap and falls to the floor with a rather undignified thump. He's starting to look worried.]

Stars, it's as though everyone just... disappeared. [Cue pacing around, not really taking anything in, but he's still talking to uh, himself. Or the Force. Take your pick. You might also be able to recognise the familiar-looking metal cylinder bumping against his leg.] Of course, I didn't feel them die, they simply vanished, not... and aside from that, I can feel a whole load of people here, too...

(ooc: This is a free verse, so feel free to play around in the sandbox - I'm still testing it out, and I what I write up here and in the character journal are mostly all I've got on it. Have fun~)

I apologise if I'm not what you expected, miss - and I'm afraid we've only met once or twice before. [He bows, jedi-style.] I am Jedi Padawan Shinichi Kudo. My Master, Sae Tu, is sadly not here.

[Waiting patiently for her to reply. He thinks he knows her, but if she didn't know who he was, or even about Jedi or the Force, then... he might not.

That twinge of disappointment just now at the thought will go ignored.]

Only once or twice? That's -- different. I see Shinichi everyday.

[Ran copies his bow.] I'm Mouri Ran, but you knew that.

[He smiles, remembering the last time he saw her in his world.] I have lived my life mostly within the Jedi Temple, or travelling with my Master. The Ran that I know lives steadily on Coruscant, perhaps a few hours' travel away by speeder. But since she is not Jedi, we have only encountered one another by chance, so far.

It is strange, though. That we must look and sound so similar, but that the Force tells me we're different... very strange indeed.

[He's silently intriuged by the idea of seeing someone like her on a day-to-day basis. He's still Shinichi, of course...]

[Ran smiles wryly at the 'different' comment -- Shinichi has no idea.] This place is like that. You're always meeting people you know, but they're not the people you know.

Shinichi and I were first neighbours, then classmates, then friends. Even now we go to the same school. Or we did, I mean.

What's the Ran you know like?

I... see. I'm afraid I'd have to see more to be able to truly understand, and my Master would say that I should meditate on the matter, but I think I see. [The fact that she's also a Ran and she says she knows a different him helps. Kind of.]

The Ran that I know is much like you are - patient, compassionate and strong. Not to mention very independant. I can only imagine that it is what comes when one's father is a retired officer of the guard. In our short number of encounters, we have got on well together. My Master says that the friendship might turn out to be a healthy one.

[Not mentioning the fact that his Master thinks so because his ego came down slightly last time he saw her.]

Don't worry. It takes a while to get used to the idea. I'm still being surprised by this place.

[Ran can read between the lines.] I'm sure the friendship will be good for both of you, yes. [She paused.] Do ... Jedi ... not have a lot of friends?

Then I'm sure I'll be fine.

[Blinks.] We do... there's the Padawan-Master training bond, and friendships between the Padawans are encouraged. I personally have a fair few friends both within and without the Order.

[Ran is relieved.] That's good. It sounds so different I was worried for a moment.

I suppose it must be very different. But the life suits me - Knight Skywalker even has friends in the Senate. But I think that's a little above me just yet. ...Perhaps you could tell me more about your own world? It must be a different place indeed, I'm sure, from all that I've heard so far.

Knight -- Senate?

My world? [How to start?] Well ... we live in a big city, and we're both high school students. Or we were. Shinichi ... doesn't know how to mediatate, I don't think -- and he doesn't know how to float at all. My father was a member of the police, which I suppose would be the same as the Jedi ... they keep the peace in our country. Now, however, he's a detective. People hire him to solve their problems.

In the Jedi, we start out as Younglings. Then, when we're of age, we're chosen by a Knight or Master to be trained, and they become our Master. [While he's saying this, he holds up a finger for every point in a Jedi's timeline.] Right now, I'm a Padawan. Sae Tu is my Master. As soon as I've passed my Trials, I'll be a Knight, and then I'll be able to take a Padawan of my own, if I want. Once I have, and they've attained the level of Knight, then I become a Master myself. [All this said rather matter-of-fact.]

It certainly doesn't sound as though your version of me is Force-sensitive, then. [Pause a moment while he thinks on the image she's just given him of her dad being a Jedi. And no, that's not - not! - laughing.] I admit, it's rather hard to imagine your father as a Jedi... but perhaps 'detective' is similar to what the Jedi and the CorSecs do sometimes.

The Trials ... are they very hard?

[Ran has a very good idea of what Shinichi's thought processes are.] The police aren't ... force-sensitive. They're just ordinary people who through training and dedication to the rules of the force ... the police force that is ... do an important job.

CorSecs?

They can be. Otherwise, they wouldn't be a true test.

I'm sure they do. The CorSecs, or Corellian Security Force, enforce the law on Corellia. Each planet has their own, and I suppose they must be much like your police, from what you've said.

It certainly sounds like it!

Good luck with your trial. Is it soon? Are you worried?

Ah, oh - no. I won't be having my Trials for a while yet... at least, I don't think so. And I'm sure that I'd get through without too much trouble.

[Ran is unimpressed.] Well, you're confident like my Shinichi, that's for sure.

Confidence is good. [He's grinning slightly, maybe teasing.] It means that you're aware of what you can do. And when there's something that I can't do, I trust in the Force to find me a way of doing it.

Uh-huh. And what does your Ran say about that?

[Laughing nervously, remembering exactly that.] She says that at least I'm not looking to be a poster boy like Skywalker.

That sounds about right.

I'd have to say that your judgement on that is better than mine. [Is that a smile? Maybe.]

Let's just say that the Shinichi I grew up with would be in a lot of trouble if he didn't have me to look out for him.

I rather hope that's not simply because he isn't aided by the Force in your world, Miss Ran.

Just Ran, please. And I think it's more to do with the fact that he attracts trouble like no one's business.

If you're new, you haven't been shown around yet, right?

Just Ran it is, then. And I can take that - I don't know how I could have gotten through some of my adventures if I hadn't been a Jedi.

No, I haven't.
