[And, this is a very non-canon Shinichi, to be seen floating cross-legged with his eyes shut in the middle of the lobby. If you've seen the Star Wars prequels, you might recognise the brown Jedi robes and leather tunic as being padawan wear, and most notably for his rank, the braid that hung down over his shoulder onto his front.

After just a moment hovering there, he opens his eyes with a snap and falls to the floor with a rather undignified thump. He's starting to look worried.]

Stars, it's as though everyone just... disappeared. [Cue pacing around, not really taking anything in, but he's still talking to uh, himself. Or the Force. Take your pick. You might also be able to recognise the familiar-looking metal cylinder bumping against his leg.] Of course, I didn't feel them die, they simply vanished, not... and aside from that, I can feel a whole load of people here, too...

(ooc: This is a free verse, so feel free to play around in the sandbox - I'm still testing it out, and I what I write up here and in the character journal are mostly all I've got on it. Have fun~)

[Shinichi senses the falter. And is curious. He crosses his arms inside his robes, walking beside her, head tilted towards her.] Oh?

[But he isn't going to push.]

Shinichi's relationship with his family isn't the best. [And that is all she is saying about that.]

Come on, the kitchen is this way.

...I see. [He doesn't actually, or at least not completely, and only from an onlooker's viewpoint. Since he doens't have any actual family ties himself. He follows her silently, except for the rustle of his robes and maybe the creak of the leather tunic he's wearing, as he thinks on it, though.]

[Ran opens another door, glad of the distraction.] And here's the kitchen! I imagine it looks much like any other kitchen does.

[Have a peering in Shinichi, looking at all the modern appliances with interest.]

More or less. There are some things I don't recognise, but I'm fairly certain I could find my way around them with a bit of experimentation.

[Ran hesitates. Dare she leave him alone to experiment?] M-maybe you should ask me a few questions while I'm here to help.

[Oh, she could. He wouldn't burn the place down too badly, either - he was forced to learn how to cook well enough so that his Master didn't get food poisoning during one of his missions. Still.]

Advice would be appreciated, thank you...

[Peering at the cooker. He knows well enough not to fiddle with the buttons and knobs, though.]

Okay. Um. Well, I suppose the first thing you need to know is ...

[Just how well and how long Ran has been friends with Shinichi is obvious in her explanation, catered to someone with an interest in knowing how things work and what will happen if you do that.]

... but generally the smoke alarm will go off before you can do that.

[He straightens with some alarm.]

You mean to say that there is something wrong with the machine?

No. It's more something wrong with whatever you've put in it.

What do you mean by-! Oi. I'm not that bad.

But that brings us to the next stop on the tour -- the dining room, where you don't have to cook at all.

And he does follow, but unlike last time, it's not in silence, it's in a slouch and with grumbles following her.

"I'm not that bad. Master even said I'd improved, and it took me ages to get even that much out of him..."

...etcetera etectera.

Ran has partnered Shinichi through too many home economics classes to be the slightest bit affected by that. "Here! Impressive, don't you think?"

And unfortunately for anyone else, he only really knew how to do a couple of simple things to the standard of 'edible'.

"...Definitely. How many worlds are these foods from, do you know?"

It's hard to say -- especially since so many of our worlds are overtly similiar. It's not until you really get talking to your alternates or something that you realise how different you are.

True, very true... [And he starts wandering around the table, looking for anything that he might recognise from home. Eventually, he does.] Look, I've found... well, this looks Alderaanian, and I'm sure this looks like that Corellian recipe Kuroba's mother treated me to last time I went there, and...

[Ran peers curiously at it.]

Is it ... fish?

[Now he's just plain laughing so hard.]

N-no... the guy's terrified of them. Won't touch them, even cooked. Causes no end of trouble for his Master, when they have to interact peaceably with some of the reptilian species. He calls it unbefitting of a Jedi to give in to such an unfounded fear.

... reptilian species.

...Master Kit Fisto in particular has often been confounded by the Padawan seen running from him. But also the Rodians, the Calamari and the Gungans, as well as others.

That's .. quite a list. Isn't that a problem for him?

Ne ... are you good friends with Kaito?

It can be. Not least because while he has nothing against the people, the fear is often a great weakness.

I've... known him for a considerable amount of time. Ever since my first mission into Corellian space, in fact, where we first crossed paths.

Just acquaintances then? And are you hungry?

[A shrug.] We train together sometimes. Hakuba's not so impressed, but I think we work well enough together. And not really - I was just making sure there was going to be something I'd recognise later on. [He smiles sheepishly, a hand going to his neck in a familiar motion.]
