[Today, the kitchen/dining area is occupied by a different flavor of Kaito, who has five cards strewn out in a line on the table before him, each one face down. He's reaching out and flipping them over to reveal the faces in random order, before he turns them over again.

Ace of spades, queen of hearts, four of diamonds, ten of clubs, two of hearts, and back to the ace which has mysteriously been transformed to a king of diamonds.

He continues this random pattern for a while, the five cards on the table changing their faces each time he flips them over.

Until he stops suddenly and lifts a card up to frown at it]

... damn it, this wasn't supposed to be a Jack, it was supposed to be another ace.

[he sighs and mumbles to himself as he collects the five cards and produces the rest of the deck from (seemingly) nowhere to shuffle it]

Might as well try again.

[Even the best magicians need practice]

[Kaito didn't notice Conan at all when he entered the kitchen. He was entirely too focused on getting this. damn. trick. right]

[He stared for a few moments longer before he walked over, pulling a chair up to sit across from him.]

Pretty focused, huh? Trying not to use magic?

[Conan's voice cuts through his concentration, and as he glances up in surprise, one of the cards slips from his fingers and flutters to the ground.

Cue muffled curse, but he doesn't bend down to pick it up again]

What are you talking about? It is magic! [well, it was sleight-of-hand, but he was hoping this Conan wasn't referring to his actual magic]

Stage magic. I was talking about the real magic you have. [Quit blunt about it too.]

[he leans down to scoop the card off the ground, poker face reconstructed]

I don't know what you're talking about. [if there's one thing he's kept from people it's the fact that he's an art spirit]

It's different from the Kaito of my world. I almost didn't notice at first, but you've got a lot more in you. You feel kind of like a kami. [He looked amused more than anything.]

[he's shuffling the deck again, and after a moment he lifts a hand to pull at something invisible in the air. Conan's glasses zoom off of his face, and Kaito catches them, twirling them around his finger deftly]

Kami, huh? I've never heard that one before. [he's grinning again, but there's something about it that seems suspicious]

How'd you know?

[He looked surprised at that action, then annoyed, and then rolled his eyes, resting his chin on his hand.]

Kind of, but it's different. The power level is more on that level than the usual ghosts or spirits. But it's different from Akako's, so it means you've probably got some blood that isn't really human in you.

I know because I have magic. I've been developing it since it seems that will help me in my goal.

[The boy was right. Now that Kaito wasn't so focused on his card trick, he could tell that the little detective had a magical aura of his own (and it was completely different from the one his Conan had). He continued to twirl the glasses in his hand idly, before he shrugged]

That's because I'm not a ghost. Or a witch like Koizumi-san. [peering at him] She's a witch on your world too, right?

That's right. She was...kind enough to tell me about the power. As well as to Hattori and Kaito for their own abilities.

I'd like my glasses back. If you break them, I can't exactly repair them.

[As instructed, he tossed the pair back to Conan]

So where's your brand of magic come from?

[He caught the glasses, slipping them back on.]

Akako couldn't say. She gave a few theories. One is we have something not human in our bloodline and we happened to win the genetic lottery to get the traits so strongly. Some being that can bless, or curse, people decided to do it at some point in our life. Or possibly something about the birth and the stars aligning or something special about the place.

What about yo?

[Kaito rests his elbow on the table, chin in his hand]

Art spirit. Part-human, on my mother's side, bust mostly art spirit.

Art spirit? Never met any of those. Cursed gems, but never an actual spirit from it.

I dunno about you, but where I come from, if a gem is cursed it is an art spirit.

As far as I know, they're not coherent. Or able to have offspring.

[an amused snort, and he's back to shuffling]

'Course the gem can't, but what lives inside can.

Well, the magic around it.

But then again, it's usually just Kaito who deals with the actual work. Hattori and I just make sure to find anyone who tries to take the potshots at him.

[he lifts his gaze from the cards]

What kind of magic does the other me specialize in?

It's not really a 'specialization.' Akako says the easiest way to explain it as 'ignorant luck.' As long as he doesn't believe it's impossible, it'll happen. Thus tricks don't backfire and things will happen that allows him to escape. Like the snow that ruined Akako's spell. But it keeps him from breaking the basic laws of physics except for maybe how he gets all that stuff on his person.

The reason I do so well against him is because I have a similar ability. I always find murders by accident because I 'sense' them and then my own abilities start to manipulate things around me to get there to solve it. Which interferes because while Kid believes he'll get away, I believe I could possibly catch them, and they come into conflict.

[Kaito raises a brow at this explanation curiously]

Hidden magic, almost. Nothing quite as noticeable or obvious as mine, but it counts.

So will you ever catch Kaitou Kid? [unlike most Kaitos, the fact that Conan knows who he is doesn't come as a surprise to this one]

That's correct. Hattori's was the most obvious since he understood what the dreams were telling him eventually. The 'manipulating' part is hard to control and honestly, both Kaito and I don't really want too. It doesn't sit well.

But Akako has been training me to fine tune the senses since the enemy uses magic. Which is why I understood what I was feeling from you.

[There's a thoughtful pause at that.] I am not a murderer. Until those people are taken care of, Kaito can't be arrested as Kid or he will surely be killed. Or escape and go into hiding, but that needlessly makes things difficult for us.

[well this is curious. This Kaito doesn't have any human enemies. He tilts his head]

Who are your enemies?

The Black Organization.

[Raises an eyebrow.] Do you not have Pandora then?

Pandora?

[he jerks a thumb in his direction]
