[There are notes all around the Mansion today. Not very complicated notes. In fact, they're very simple.
'Kaito,
I have a surprise for you, so come to the lobby as soon as possible.
Love,
mom'
Of course, should any Kaito listen to this letter and enter the lobby, they'll find a surprise.
Namely in the form of a pitfall right in front of all the doors. One with aligators, one with dogs, one with snakes, and for the truly unlucky Kaito, one with fish.
And should they pass the pitfall, they'd have to deal with a poles shooting out of the ground.
And should they pass that, there will be a swinging blade pendulum of death.
And then there will be cake.
Chocolate cake.
Which is actually perfectly safe. That's his treat for making it through alive.
Of course others are allowed to be caught by the traps by mistake, of course. Aya will come help you since you're not Kaito. Aoko's won't be helped though, since she trained her too.]

A) It was from another version of his mother to another version of himself, in which case he didn't need to follow.
B) It was addressed to him and from his actual mother, in which case he probably didn't want to go, or else he might be skewered by spears as soon as he walked through the door.
The thief tilts his head, lifts a hand to scratch the back of it lazily, and crumples the letter up]
How will she know I actually read it? [he scoffs and tosses it over his shoulder, opting to continue browsing the bookshelf rather than risk potential awkwardness or death]
no subject
And those would be arrows flying out of the bookshelf as soon as he moves another book.
With a note among them. 'Listen to your mother, young man!']
no subject
Holy crap!
[he gulps as he stared at the line of arrows stuck in the wall, and scowled when he read the note. Well, that solved a few mysteries. It was his mother's bidding, alright]
Fine, fine! Don't try to kill me before I get there! Geez!
[clearly irritated, Kaito stormed out of the room and toward the lobby]
Still can't believe she does this... passed all these tests years ago... won't get rusty--
[He's so busy mumbling to himself that he almost misses the pit (the alligator one, thankfully). He balances on the edge for a moment, flailing a bit as he almost falls inside, before he pulls back completely and just. Stares at it]
Mom!
no subject
But look. Fresh cake. Right there!]
no subject
You think I'm going to risk my life for some chocolate cake? No thanks! If you want to say hi, come greet me like a normal mother!
no subject
And that would be the door slamming shut behind him. And the sound of an automatic deadbolt. Can't pick that.]
no subject
Mom!
[oh fine, he's lost this one. With a resigned sigh, Kaito turns back to the pit. He'd have to do this all in one go. Knowing how his mother set up traps... if he paused for even a second before he reached the cake, he'd be dead meet.
So with a deep breath, he takes a running leap over the pit, landing on the other side smoothly and missing the edge by mere centimeters. As soon as he hits the ground, he runs, the poles shooting up from the ground where he had landed seconds after he does so. And finally, he ducks and rolls to avoid the swinging, bladed pendulum, almost as if he knew it was there without even seeing it.
He slows to a stop next to the cake and glances behind him as he catches his breath. And then... cue cheeky grin]
Ha! Did it!

Except...
She'd seen a few little boys who looked similar enough, but weren't her son and a closer look...yep, definitely not his hair. And those were glasses and Kaito's eyesight has always been fine.]
You might not want to step forward, little boy.
[And there she is, perched on the balcony railing around the lobby. Kept her out of the way and gave her height.]

I know pit-traps!
[Conan waves in greeting, before studying the pit in front of him. His gaze shifts to the poles and the pendulum and the cake and he raises an eyebrow. Kuroba didn't eat cake ...]
no subject
no subject
No. They're just insane.
And like pit-traps.
no subject
[Raises an eyebrow at that. And then laughs.] I wonder if Kaito thought that when he was your age.
no subject
You didn't ask him?

Keywords appropriate
There's the snake door opening, and a startled yelp as a figure in white vanishes into the pit, top hat floating lazily to rest on the floor just in front.]
Keywords....almost appropriate
[And she's going to take a look down the snake pit from her elevated perch on the balcony around the lobby. It's not like they're POISONOUS after all. Just him getting bit proves whether or not he'd be good against them or not.]
no subject
[Your attention may be drawn by a small noise of pleasure and a phantom thief already munching his happy way into the first slice of chocolate cake. He looks like an odd mix of Kaito and of a younger Toichi, recognisable as both-but-neither.]
[Distraction is one of the basics of being a Kaitou, after all.]
no subject
[Oh, and there's that noise. She looked over and stared. Then laughed.] It's been a while since I've been tricked like that. Not since Toichi and my days in the tomb. [Walks back over so she was closer, taking a good look at this Kaito.
Now...that was interesting.] Hm, you don't look like Kaito. Not exactly...
no subject
Milady, distraction is one of my many and varied talents.
[He bows, producing a rose... which appears to be made of chocolate. He blinks at it for a moment, laughs, and produces another, this one real and a deep yellow, presenting the two to Aya.]
Kaitou Kid, milady.
no subject
Is it? Then you are quite like those two men you look like.
[She smiled, accepting the roses.]
A pleasure to meet you, Kaitou Kid-san. I am Kuroba Aya. [Of course, Kaitou Kid did not exist in her world, with how things had gone.]
no subject
[It's as much his name now as Kaito's is his. And being called anything but his first name by his mother/wife/precious-person is too formal for him.]
Though this is our first meeting, it is neverthless a pleasure to meet you again.
[His tone is pleased, eyes twinkling slightly. Mischievous purple eyes drift sideways to the cake on it's table, and the side of his mouth quirks up in a smile.]
And your cake.

But, well, an Aya-san is an Aya-san, and she wants to see if she's the one that she knows. So she veeeery cautiously makes her way to the lobby, and even more warily sticks her head in]
Aya-san?
no subject
And look! There's cake over on that table.]
no subject
She takes a moment to observe the -- apparently clear -- path to the cake, sizing up potential obstacles and how much speed and strength she's going to need.
Then she takes a deep breath, a step backwards...
...and jumps]
no subject
And then the poles of DOOM shooting out of the ground right afterwards.
And watch out for that pendulum blade at the end~!]
