There is, in a hallway, a small child. He looks to be about seven years old. He looks to be a Kaito. He also looks rather confused and lost and startled.

He isn't going to introduce himself as Kuroba Kaito though, and he isn't going to be performing any magic tricks for you.

There's a sudden flicker of pain in his expression before it switches to outright pouty-little-kid.

"No I'm not."

"Yes, you are, because there's no way Aoko wouldn't worry."

The look in his eyes is hard, and distant.

"No. She's not worried about me."

That...that was not a good look. Aoko frowned. "...why isn't she?"

"That doesn't really matter, does it?"

"There are very, very few reasons I can think of where Aoko wouldn't be worried. Which pretty much all involve lying to her."

"We both know how good I am at lying."

"So what did you tell her?"

"I didn't tell her anything." And it's pretty obvious that he wants to stop talking about this.

And she's gonna ignore that desire. "But someone else did."

"It doesn't matter. She's not worried about me."

"What does she think happened to you?" Aoko asked, looking suspicious now.

"Why does it matter?"

"Because I can tell you how long Aoko is gonna be mad at you when you tell her the truth."

"I'll find out all by myself!"

Aoko gave him a cold look. "...she doesn't think you're dead, does she?"

Utter. Silence. Not making eye contact.

Bingo. "If Aoko wasn't worried, you'd have to be calling her and writing to her a lot. Which isn't the best thing to do while hiding. So...she'd have to think there was nothing to worry about..."

And there was a glare. "Do you know how STUPID THAT IS?!"

"It wasn't my choice."

A sullen glare. It's been three months. He knows how much he's hurt her.

"It involved experimental poisons, missed plane rides, and terrorist attacks."

Aoko thought on that. "You were supposed to be on a plane that was hit by a terrorist attack, but got Aptoxin'd instead?"

A slightly mocking grin. "Maybe Aoko isn't such an ahou after all!"

"Baka," Aoko said. "Stranger things have happened. Or has happened. I think Kaito is dead after hearing he's in a horrible accident. Then i remember, no he's not. Then we have to move again."
