There is, in a hallway, a small child. He looks to be about seven years old. He looks to be a Kaito. He also looks rather confused and lost and startled.

He isn't going to introduce himself as Kuroba Kaito though, and he isn't going to be performing any magic tricks for you.

"It's an entirely different situation."

"Can you be so sure about that?"

"Yeah."

"Aoko thinks you died in a terrorist attack, right?"

"Aoko thinks I'm dead, and the Organization doesn't realise I was KID. They know KID's still alive though."

Aoko sighed and shook her head. "Think, baka. If Aoko thinks someone is behind your death, she'll want to know the truth. There's still a chance she'll chase Kid like I did and get in trouble too. In fact, she might be more likely too if she doesn't try to find out who killed you to distract herself."

"It was a terrorist attack, totally indiscriminate. I've only been able to pull off one heist since this happened, an emergency appearance because someone sent out a note in my name. Just enough to let the world know KID's still alive."

"It doesn't matter if it was indiscriminate. There's a person to blame," Aoko said. "And that still doesn't keep Aoko from possibly getting involved."

"It's all been taken care of. There's no way she'll get involved."

"How have you done that?"

"The same way the country takes care of any terrorist attack, Ahoko."

"With a lot of paranoia and freak outs and then attack whoever was responsible where they involve innocent civilians of the same nationality."

"And then it's taken care of and over with, and Aoko doesn't figure out what really happened to me."

"You really have no faith at all in Aoko, do you?"

"She's safe right now."

"What's the point of being safe with you gone?"

"It's better for her to be safe with me gone, than for her to be in danger with me gone."

Aoko scowled. "...you really don't understand Aoko's feelings at all. Kaito never did either."

It's really not that common for Kaito to be so angry, though he's hiding it well, Poker Face making him look more annoyed than wrathful. He doesn't want to talk to her about this, to be reminded about this.

"I guess I don't."

"Then think of it this way. If the roles were reversed, would you want Aoko to hide?"

"If she thought that was the only thing she could do, then yes."

This was his choice. He was making sure she was safe. He was protecting her.

"So you'd really want her to let you think she's dead?" Aoko asked.

"I wouldn't want it, but it might be for the best."

"But you wouldn't know that. Think about it from HER perspective. How much it hurts to think you're dead," Aoko said, looking away. "Don't you know how important you are to her?"

"What could she do to fix this? Nothing." He snaps at her, letting out a second of all the frustration and worry that's been building up for months. "She can't do anything. All she could do is sit and worry and get herself in danger, and I am not letting that happen. Not to her."
