There is, in a hallway, a small child. He looks to be about seven years old. He looks to be a Kaito. He also looks rather confused and lost and startled.

He isn't going to introduce himself as Kuroba Kaito though, and he isn't going to be performing any magic tricks for you.

"It's better for her to be safe with me gone, than for her to be in danger with me gone."

Aoko scowled. "...you really don't understand Aoko's feelings at all. Kaito never did either."

It's really not that common for Kaito to be so angry, though he's hiding it well, Poker Face making him look more annoyed than wrathful. He doesn't want to talk to her about this, to be reminded about this.

"I guess I don't."

"Then think of it this way. If the roles were reversed, would you want Aoko to hide?"

"If she thought that was the only thing she could do, then yes."

This was his choice. He was making sure she was safe. He was protecting her.

"So you'd really want her to let you think she's dead?" Aoko asked.

"I wouldn't want it, but it might be for the best."

"But you wouldn't know that. Think about it from HER perspective. How much it hurts to think you're dead," Aoko said, looking away. "Don't you know how important you are to her?"

"What could she do to fix this? Nothing." He snaps at her, letting out a second of all the frustration and worry that's been building up for months. "She can't do anything. All she could do is sit and worry and get herself in danger, and I am not letting that happen. Not to her."

"Baka!" Aoko snapped, glaring at him. "You miss her! Think how much you miss her and multiple that times a hundred and maybe you'll get close to how torn up she is!"

"I am not losing her."

"So you don't trust her to protect herself?!"

"Not against these people."

"Kaito, think about it. The reason you're not dead is because they couldn't keep up, wasn't it? Who CAN keep up with you?"

"That's just it. They could keep up with me. Easily."

"If they could, you'd be dead by bullet."

"No, that would be if they couldn't. Bullets are easier to get someone with than poison."

"But they never killed you with a bullet until that night! Besides, it's not like you'd expect an attack as Kuroba."

"Why are we talking about this?"

"Because you're a baka who doesn't understand how important you are to Aoko!"

"I am not."

"You're the one who kept her going when she was lonely!"
