[Today, the kitchen/dining area is occupied by a different flavor of Kaito, who has five cards strewn out in a line on the table before him, each one face down. He's reaching out and flipping them over to reveal the faces in random order, before he turns them over again.

Ace of spades, queen of hearts, four of diamonds, ten of clubs, two of hearts, and back to the ace which has mysteriously been transformed to a king of diamonds.

He continues this random pattern for a while, the five cards on the table changing their faces each time he flips them over.

Until he stops suddenly and lifts a card up to frown at it]

... damn it, this wasn't supposed to be a Jack, it was supposed to be another ace.

[he sighs and mumbles to himself as he collects the five cards and produces the rest of the deck from (seemingly) nowhere to shuffle it]

Might as well try again.

[Even the best magicians need practice]

You might want to consider mixing it up a little.

[Conan shook his head, sticking the card in his book and going back to reading.]

[Kaito frowned. Well then, if this little kid was going to be like that...

He lifted a finger and pointed at the book, and the pages began to turn, fluttering on their own and causing the detective to lose is place]

[Conan scrambled to turn back the pages, find his place again.] Excuse me for having an opinion.

You really think a book is more interesting than magic?

[the pages flutter around again, and Kaito grins]

[Conan struggles to keep his hold on the book.]

Then card tricks? Yes, if you're going to treat me like a kid. Know your audience.

Then how about something like this--

[and Conan's chair shoots away from the table, sliding across the kitchen floor, with Conan still sitting in it]

[Conan yelps, letting go of the book, just in time to grab the chair. He glares at Kaito from across the room.] Now you're just being a jerk.

[Kaito stops moving the chair, but he doesn't bring it back to the table]

You're the one who wanted better effects.

[If Conan's expression was unimpressed before, that's nothing to it now. All that, and Kaito had missed his entire point?] Effects nothing. An answer, Kaito.

[missed it, or avoided it completely on purpose?]

To what questions, Edogawa-kun?

[Conan slips off the chair, heading over to retrieve his book.] I have no idea what that other me sees in you. Since you're going to be like that, you're going to have to find a new audience.

I'm not the one being vague.

"A magician never reveals his secrets!"

Well, they don't. Anyone's going to tell you that. You think I'm just going to sit here and say "oh, and by the way, this is how I do this trick."

Anyone. That's exactly my point. You know I'm not going to fall over myself because you've done what every Vegas card-sharp can do -- so why not tell me?

Because I'm a magician, and I stick to my principles.

[a snort]

Besides, I've done what ever Vegan card-sharp has done, and I do it better.

It doesn't matter how good you are if you can't keep an audience.

[Conan has retrieved his book and is on the way to the door.]

[-- jerk.

Have the door slamming in your face]

[Starts, surprised, and turns to give Kaito a very sour look, before going on tip-toe to reach the door-handle.]
