[Today, the kitchen/dining area is occupied by a different flavor of Kaito, who has five cards strewn out in a line on the table before him, each one face down. He's reaching out and flipping them over to reveal the faces in random order, before he turns them over again.

Ace of spades, queen of hearts, four of diamonds, ten of clubs, two of hearts, and back to the ace which has mysteriously been transformed to a king of diamonds.

He continues this random pattern for a while, the five cards on the table changing their faces each time he flips them over.

Until he stops suddenly and lifts a card up to frown at it]

... damn it, this wasn't supposed to be a Jack, it was supposed to be another ace.

[he sighs and mumbles to himself as he collects the five cards and produces the rest of the deck from (seemingly) nowhere to shuffle it]

Might as well try again.

[Even the best magicians need practice]

[If Conan's expression was unimpressed before, that's nothing to it now. All that, and Kaito had missed his entire point?] Effects nothing. An answer, Kaito.

[Conan slips off the chair, heading over to retrieve his book.] I have no idea what that other me sees in you. Since you're going to be like that, you're going to have to find a new audience.

"A magician never reveals his secrets!"

[identity profile] are-too-holmes.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone. That's exactly my point. You know I'm not going to fall over myself because you've done what every Vegas card-sharp can do -- so why not tell me?

[identity profile] are-too-holmes.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't matter how good you are if you can't keep an audience.

[Conan has retrieved his book and is on the way to the door.]

[Starts, surprised, and turns to give Kaito a very sour look, before going on tip-toe to reach the door-handle.]

[identity profile] are-too-holmes.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
[IGNORING YOU and really, really hoping that this particular Kaito never learns that there are some doors in the mansion that Conan can't reach.]

[identity profile] are-too-holmes.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Gets the doorhandle! Finally.]

I did ask. If you think I'm asking again just so you can give me that old, tired response, you're out of luck.

[identity profile] are-too-holmes.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Tries the handle a few times before realising that no, it isn't just jammed. This is ... momentarily disconcerting.]

Sorry, Kaito. I'm not playing that game.

[identity profile] are-too-holmes.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Then have Conan's chirpiest Conan voice.]

Kaito-niisan, please open the door for me~!

[identity profile] are-too-holmes.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Innocent expression of surprise and puzzlement.]

Sincere?

[identity profile] are-too-holmes.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Blinkity-blink.] I am a kid.

[identity profile] are-too-holmes.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Raising an eyebrow. They appear to have met an impasse.]
