Kaitou Kid opens a doorway and stumbles in without looking. Everything about him appears normal, the hat, the monocle, the suit, the cape, all except his customary poker face. That was missing, which was understandable since he was walking like a drunken cat.

Oh, and there were bloodstains on him. Brown splotches of dried blood were mainly concentrated around his suit's collar. If one looked carefully, there was even some on his neck. Yet strangely, no wound was anywhere in sight.

Kid staggers blindly over to a couch, and it would seem that the sight of the furniture gave him pause. "Did I enter the wrong house...?" His words came out weak. As if he had no strength to continue, he collapsed down into the maroon colored cushions with a groan. The thief didn't even bother to look around to confirm or deny his theory. If there was anyone else in the room, he didn't notice.

"I had a suspicion," Shinichi explained, surprised and amused at how petulant the other sounded. "But I did not know. It is a pleasure to meet one so famous."

"A dark shape? And you do not show signs of being wounded ... undoubtedly, a spirit. You will probably die -- ah, do not touch that!" He scolded Kaito, batting his hand away from the wound. "You will let in the bacteria."

"Ah," Shinichi said, non-plussed as he defied personal space to take a closer look at Kaito's neck. "Not even the bite of an insect." He thought about this a moment and then patted Kaito's shoulder as he stood. "Which only makes a spirit that much more likely. Sorry."

Well, if Kaito was about to die, then his last few hours should at least be pleasant. And if he didn't die, he should eat something -- either way, the apprentice was not going to get much reading done tonight. "Ah. If it is the dining room you are looking for, I will guide you there."

"Ah. They have many strange magics ... It would be no matter to them to wound you and leave no sign." Shinichi pondered the matter, wondering if there were other explanations. "It could be that you killed someone."

Shinichi watched Kaito attempt to stand and fail. "I do not feel hot. But then, I am not under a spirits curse. Would you like me to bring you something?"

Shinichi followed Kaito's gaze to his hands and frowned. His companion did not seem to be in any state of mind to clean himself ... and hadn't done a very good job of cleaning himself if it came to that.

"It is more likely a spirit," he conceded, patting Kaito on his shoulder. "I will open the window."

He did just that, taking a moment to breathe in the evening air before turning back to Kaito. His condition seemed to be changing so quickly that Shinichi didn't want to leave him, but how else were they to get the drink? "Do you know what you want?"

With Shinichi's years of training, it was no difficult matter to side-step the stumbling Kaito and catch him before he fell. Shinichi steadied him. "You are dying," he scolded his companion. "You must not try to do too much."

Shinichi shrugged. "People die every day. I would prefer you didn't of course, but since there are spirits involved it is probably inevitable."

He was utterly non-plussed by Kaito's remark. "Hah?"

Shinichi was not impressed. He pushed Kaito back onto the sofa. "Even Hattori is not that forward," he scolded. "Have you forgotten yourself, Kaitou Kid-san?"

You could not expect someone dying of a curse to follow the forms of politeness, Shinichi decided charitably. Or even to follow a normal path of conversation. "I pushed you and you are now sitting down. I shall get that water now?"

At the groan, Shinichi changed his mind about the smart remark he'd been about to make. Dying was no small matter after all. "I will not be long," he assured Kaito, slipping out the door.

He had quickly accustomed himself to the Mansion's most stable paths and true to his word, it was not long before he was back, placing a hand on Kaito's arm to check his condition as he put the glass of water before him. "Still with the living?"

Shinichi was quiet a long moment. Had he imagined or had he seen ... ?

He took Kaito's gloved hand, wrapping it around the glass of water, noting how cool the other seemed. Now that physical evidence of the other's impending demise were showing, it was not as possible to think about the matter calmly. "Ah. And I have your water. Drink."
