[Event] Whatever you do, don't high-five

Your hands look normal, feel normal, and even smell normal. There's nothing out of the ordinary... Except when you touch something (or someone) else~

You'll start leaving handprints, fingerprints, streaks of colour along the walls, furniture, and along other people's skin. There's a different colour for every different person, and who knows what happens when you high-five?

Somehow, Ran isn't surprised to hear that it's been harder for his female self.

"Two weeks?"

But that is a surprise.

"Wonder why I haven't run into her yet?" he wonders aloud, pausing as his fingers trail over the hall table as they pass it, leaving streaks of green in his wake. Guess it isn't just the wall after all.

"I -- get the impression she hasn't been doing much in the way of exploring," Shinichi said, uncomfortably. But he can't resist teasing a little. "Your sense of direction isn't any better no matter what world you're from."

Ran gives him a look (or at least shoots a look in what he thinks is Shinichi's general direction), more than a little grumpy at the reminder. He had been lost in the mansion that first time Shinichi had gotten the drop on him with the ghost effects, after all. "Shut up."

...But he couldn't help being a little worried about his other self. "Who else has she met?"

"Let's see--" Shinichi's hand came to rest against the wall thoughtfully as he considered. "She mentioned talking things out with another Ran -- pretty sure the same Ran I met. The one that isn't you, I mean. Some of the Conan's -- which, I'm not sure -- and a girl me." Which is still a weird thought.

"Girl you?" That sounds familiar. "You mean Minori?"

Shinichi's double-take went entirely unappreciated -- this is what happens when you're invsible. "You've met her? What am I like?" Pause. "What on earth is the right pronoun for this?"

"Don't ask me," Ran retorted, still trying to figure that out himself. "And she's like... you. Except she's a girl."

And is kind of cute. But he's keeping that part to himself. He can barely even admit it to himself as it is.

Let's see, how else can he describe Shinichi to Shinichi...?

"She knows Haibara and everyone, and she never got shrunk," he continued, thoughtfully. "She doesn't have a Conan, either. Plus she acts kind of like your mom sometimes."

And then he grinned, wickedly.

"And she's got a crush on Hattori."



......That was okay to say, right? It's not like he's telling anyone other than Shinichi. Who... is Minori. Kind of.

Except not really.

"Acts somewhat like my--" Shinichi was still invisible, but his headshake was almost audible. "Do you know, I met a Hakuba who told me about a world where I decided to be an actor not a detective? Still died though."

Shinichi's reaction was everything Ran could have hoped for. "Hattori? Really? Detective from Osaka? That Hattori?"

"That Hattori," Ran responded smugly, positively gleeful over the tone he could hear in the detective's voice. Score one for the karateka.

The victory was somewhat marred, however, by his distraction by the other thing Shinichi had said. "There's another world where you... died?" That was an unsettling thought. "Which Hakuba?"

"That Hattori..." Shinichi echoes faintly. If he hadn't met the girl Hattori, he'd have a much harder time imagining it, but part of the problem was that he could.

"Right." Shinichi seized on Ran's question eagerly. "Hakuba from 1412's world. I've been researching."

Ran's expression went blank, all thoughts of teasing flown from his mind. The Hakuba from 1412's world... but wasn't that...

"Aren't you Conan in that world?" he asked, incredulous. They'd been talking about it the other day, how 1412 had spoken of his 'murdering chibi-chan'. Surely that meant that it had to be Shinichi; Ran couldn't imagine one of the 'real' Conans pulling something like that off, and Shinichi had seemed to be of the same opinion. "But doesn't that mean..."

If Shinichi was definitely 'dead' on that world, that meant that not only was that Conan an actor, which would probably make him even harder to spot, but he had very convincingly faked his death -- or, Ran realizes with a chill, had someone killed in his place.

Shinichi nodded, pleased that Ran got it immediately. "There's two possibilities. 1412 recognized me as Conan -- that could be because I am that Conan, or 1412 is mistaken. I favour the first option -- 1412's insane but he's not stupid."

"I'm starting to like this version of you less and less."

That was an understatement -- Ran was practically seeing red at the thought of what that Conan must have put his friends through by faking his death. What did the Ran from that world do? Or was he/she just as corrupt as the rest of them?

An evil version of himself. Ran couldn't help but feel a little sick at the idea. His karate was very powerful, and if another Ran had that ability and no scruples about using it on people...

"You're not the only one." Though it was strange. As long as the possibility existed that this was a Conan, Shinichi couldn't help but feel as concerned as he was angry. What on earth was going on?

"I -- haven't said anything to that Hakuba yet. He's -- there's something odd about him too. I don't know what it is yet. You should meet him, Ran."

"Probably..." Ran leaned against the painted wall, running a hand through his hair (and not even thinking that the mysterious paint might come off in it -- luckily, it didn't). "What's he like?"

"Like Hakuba. Only more so." Shinichi frowned, wondering how to properly explain him. "Usually he's pretty contained, but this one-- it's even more marked. And I still have the feeling that he's told me more than he might anyone casually. So if he finds out the Conan in his world might be a me -- he has to know. But we need his help."

"Right. I'll keep an eye out for him."

This thing with 1412 seemed to be getting more and more complicated -- and more and more dangerous. Ran didn't really like it at all, but it wasn't like they had a choice.

"Do you think anything we do to him here would carry over when he went home?"

Shinichi traced the pattern of the wallpaper idly with one finger, leaving paint traces behind him. "Hard to tell. We don't know enough about what happens when someone leaves."

"Do you know anyone who has?" Ran asked, looking in the direction of the paint doodling. He was still kind of unsettled by how long Hattori-san had been stuck here.

"One Kaito." Shinichi sounded faintly disgruntled at that. "One Conan-me." Pause. "Possibly the Ran from the internet community."

That was more people than Ran had been expecting, at least. "What happens to them when they go home?"

"The Conan-me doesn't go home. He's trapped someplace different. Don't know about Ran, but Kaito says that he just goes home and no time has passed." Pause. "He doesn't remember this place though."

((ooc: Or at least I think that's what pans_box said. My memory is just that bad.))

"He doesn't remember it at all?" Shoot. How was he supposed to convince his Shinichi that they needed to let Hattori-san in on things? "And what do you mean, someplace different?"

((Yup! ...I think Ran said it too, but I honestly don't remember now.))

"Come to think of it, Conan-me warned me that he was likely to forget as soon as he got back to that place -- and I mean some place different. He was pulled from his world to it, and so he comes here from that place." Shinichi grimaced, knowing what Ran was thinking. He scrubbed a palm over the scribbles he'd drawn, drowning them in a wide smudge of colour.

"Weird." Ran had turned to idly doodling stick figures on the wall, combating each other with various karate techniques. "But... that's only three people, right? That doesn't mean that everyone will forget."

Even as he said it, though, he knew the odds weren't very high.
