[And there's a Kazuha, standing in the hall, having opened the door to what SHOULD have been her bedroom, only to find it was really leading into a hallway that CERTAINLY wasn't in her house.]

What in the...? [She looked back, seeing an empty study behind her.]

...eh? [And have a very confused Kazuha.]

[....]

[Oddly, she's in a black dress suit, complete with black ribbon.]

Well, she was definitely mature for her age.

Thought not as frighteningly so as I first thought.

[Amused shrug] That's not a very clear answer, Toyama-san.

I take it your version of me also had trouble "acting her age"?

[She actually snickers at that.]

That would imply she even attempted it.

Oh, wait...

I do remember her acting very cute in Miracle Land once.

But we also had bombs strapped to our wrists, apparently.

[She makes a small face at that.]

Is there something wrong with enjoying having a normal life occasionally, especially when it might be your last day on Earth?

Or well, mostly normal, right up until there was that altercation with that idiot thief.

The fact you were working under orders to keep us safe? I can't think it was too much fun, even before Ayumi was grabbed.

[It was a gamble. She didn't know who told Haibara to keep them away from the roller coaster. When she heard about what almost happened to her, it all seemed obvious, but it was possible she was wrong.]

... That ... no. But around keeping people away from the roller coaster, there was some time here and there where it was almost a regular day out at the amusement park; sometimes you have to take what you can get.

[shrug] So what did you mean about not being seven?

[Shrugs and starts walking towards her and then past her, further down the hall.] Well, if ya don't get it...

Hmm, by the way, I'm thinking of making a dish. [Looks back.] Think this place has some cooking sherry? [It was an innocent statement, but she could take it as a test, to see if this Haibara 'knew' what that meant.]

[Turning and following ...]

Oh, I know they do. Don't seem to have much else in the cabinet that I've seen, though.

[And it's her turn to do some studying.]

Really? Too bad.

I know some pretty good recipes that use Gin and Vodka that I've been wanting to try too. Heiji is a horrible liar and I can see he's getting bored with what I've been making lately.

[Or translation: She knows because Heiji sucks at lying and she figured it out.]

I'd be careful with that; it's easy for it to not work out like you planned. Wouldn't want to have it blow up in your face.

Oh, I know to be careful.

Especially if Vermouth is added to the mix. Heiji might have a bit of an allergy to it.

[Since he did help with that whole Vermouth incident. A primary issue she had. If 'Shinichi' was discovered, he might be found out.]

I think there's a lot of us that'd have a bit of a reaction to Vermouth; doesn't go with much, really.

But that's the trouble with it all; some things just don't agree with most people.

You might want to watch yourself, too.

Oh? And why's that, Ai-chan? It's not like I'm a bad cook.

[And a very small, pointed smile.] I'm sure you do a fine job, but you never know when you might develop an allergy.

Those can be fatal, you know.

[She looks back at Haibara.] And what would Ai-chan know of allergies to alcohol?

I've had a few bad reactions myself, but it sounds like you've already heard at least part of that story.

[Oh yes, she caught your earlier comment.]

So, you haven't tried to kill me yet...

[...That puts some things in an entirely new light.]

And why would I do something stupid like that in unfamiliar territory without knowing yet if I had a reason to?

[She's toying with her keys absent mindedly with one hand, where they're visible; enough to notice a Porsche key on the keyrings.] It has been a while since that trip to the amusement park, you know; quite a lot can happen.

Because if you were an Organization spy, ya would because I wouldn't tell ya absolutely anything without confirmation ya were really Haibara.

And you're not pryin' enough to be tryin' to do that, so either ya realize I'm useless and would try, or yer really Haibara.

But it's good to get confirmation.

...or is it you don't ahve to worry as you've got Gin's car key as a trophy at them being taken down?

There's no such thing as "not having to worry", and I'm not about to go into exactly how I have this - it does make a good warning, though. But the Organization has taken quite a few major blows where I'm from, and you might want to consider that I might not be the same one you're used to.

[She's now smiling very pointily.]
I should thank you for tipping your hand; where I'm from, Toyama had no connection to them.

I heard enough to be mostly sure ya weren't one of their spies, which would mean all this is true, or yer playin' a REALLY extensive prank on me, and it might be of value ta me and everyone back home if it's true ya are grown up to get more information about them.

And of course she's connected. She's a target just by being connected to everyone. I guess Heiji never got hit hard enough for her to stop missin' what was in front of her face.

I'm not stupid, ya know? I just didn't think Heiji would be stupid enough ta hide somethin' that big from me. [Scoffs.] And for my protection...ya and Kudo practically had a fit when he told ya I found out.

Well, that definitely makes it different versions of events.

She did stop missing what was going on - by that point we had a little much going on to have the energy to waste on being angry about that, and it was a little hard to miss if you were someone around us.

So she only noticed after things got really rough, huh?

Tell me Ran-chan knows somethin'. It's cruel, leavin' her out of all of that. Still tryin' to convinc Kudo to tell her. Half tempted to do it myself if I didn't know she'd want it from him.

Something like that. After a point, things went downhill fast, and I think Toyama had caught on there was something major going on long before it got obvious.

[Paaause...and a short, cut-off laugh.] Ran-san was one of the first to find out - Something had gone wrong, Kudo was half-dead and out of it, she drug him out of it before everything collapsed on top of him, he babbled and said more than enough to make it impossible to backpedal out of.

.... [And there's an uncomfortable look on her face before she looked away.] Ah, so it really was somethin' like that.

I had yelled at Heiji, demandin' why he went in somewhere with a bomb. Found out he was tryin' to save one of those people that had been set up for execution when he couldn't think of a lie to tell me. Though that was three days later.

Ahou, could have said he just knew someone was in there, but with how much he slipped about Kudo, he really never got used to it.
