[There's an Aoko running around the mansion and searching frantically, as if her life depends on it (and for all she knows, it does). She's noticeably different from your usual Aoko, even at a glance; she's wearing a faded, green prison jumpsuit, and there's a thick, metal collar around her neck with a barcode stamped on it. If you look at her closer, she's tired, a little pale, and she looks sort of roughed up, as if she's fallen over a lot and been hit a few times.

She also looks panicked, worried, and almost a little frightened.]

Kaito?! Oi, Kaito--! Is this another Dog Race? More experiments?! Azami-chan!! Shiro-chan, Yoh-kun! Where are you guys--? [For a moment, she stops and glances down at her hand, considering something that seems to scare her a little; she shakes her head and continues running, determined.] This isn't funny!! Stupid Kaito--

I'm gonna find you, Kaito, okay? Do you hear me?! Don't die yet, or I'll never forgive you!

[And with that, she starts sprinting again.]

Stupid Kaito! I was really worried, you know!

[It's hard to keep up a genuine-looking angry expression, and there are some tears in her eyes, but she's doing her best not to crumble. It makes it easier if they're yelling at each other, the way they used to - the way they haven't done as often, since everything that's happened.]

[His annoyed look doesn't fade, but he's about as grateful for the normality as she is. Arguing always makes things easier. It's what they've always done, and it's become a rather comforting song and dance.

Though that doesn't mean that he doesn't get annoyed at her from time to time]

Idiot, how worried do you think I was? [he shoots back, irritation lacing his voice. He kneels down to rub the top of his foot (the pain is thankfully ebbing away), and though his gaze is firmly fixed on the ground, he didn't miss the tears in her eyes. He offers comfort in his own... somewhat blunt Kaito way]

... and don't cry, stupid. There's no reason for you to.

[She looks down at him, and after a beat or two, she sinks down and sits on the stairs beside him.]

Who would cry over you? And I'm fine, you're the one who gets into trouble all the time!

[The pain in his foot is almost gone now thankfully, and he sits up and leans on his hands as he talks to her]

I don't get into trouble all the time! Not anymore than anyone else in DW does!

[... which isn't exactly all true since he does have a tendency to seek out more trouble than the normal deadman does]

You do so. You end up covered in cuts and bruises when you haven't even had a Carnival!

[... So maybe she doesn't like the term "Carnival Corpse", but come on, who does?]

[... not him, definitely]

Oh, those? [a scoff, and he rests his chin in his hands and his elbows on his knees]

I just get those whenever I compliment Minatsuki's dress or something.

Stop teasing Minatsuki-chan, then! You know she's really sensitive!

I wasn't even teasing her! It was a nice dress!

I bet you were being a jerk like always! She comes to me crying because of you sometimes!

Minatsuki? Crying? [... it is very difficult to imagine someone as violet her crying to Aoko because of his teasing]

Of course! She's a really nice girl and she's really sensitive about her appearance, but you're just the same, mean Bakaito as you always are!

[and now he's just giving her a look]

[She's giving him a look right back.]

[if Minatsuki is putting on the cutesy act for Aoko, he makes a mental note to have a... ahem. Discussion about lying to his bff when he returns]

Minatsuki isn't exactly the person I want to talk about right now, anyway. [he rests his chin in his hands again, and his annoyed look clears away] Are you all right?

[Her irritated look falls away too, and she looks down at her left arm, covered in bruises and red marks from where the needles had gone in.]

... Have you seen what they can do?

[he finds himself glancing over at her arm, and once again a wave of fury courses through him. His hands tighten into fists]

... yeah. [and knowing that just makes him angrier that they took her]

They haven't put the mask on me yet. I can probably... [She trails off and stares at her hand, then looks back up at the far wall.] ... But I don't want to.

[She won't mention how scared she is, about everything - that they'll put the mask on her, that she won't want to ever take it off (she knows what they do, she's seen Azami when they take it away from her), that they'll just find her useless and get rid of her, that she'll have to use her power anyway, that she won't be able to control it, that she'll hurt someone, that she'll have to fight him—]

You're not gonna have to.

[He says it firmly, with every bit of conviction he has. He knows they won't put a mask on her. He knows he won't let them. There's no doubt in his mind]

'M gonna get you out of there before they can, Aoko. I swear.

I know. But I don't want to leave everyone else there. Azami-chan...

We're gonna help her too, Aoko. [Especially with how determined Ganta had been to do so]

... What does everyone else in the G-Sector think about it? [She's genuinely curious, because she's not sure what to expect.]

[there's a long, loooooooooooong pause on Kaito's end, because... well. Considering the Forgeries were created specifically to make deadmen look like terrible, homicidal monsters, it follows that no one in G-Sector thinks really highly of them. After everything Aoko's been through, he doesn't really want to dash her hopes that much.

He bites his lip and shakes his head]

Kaito... [She doesn't care if she won't like it. She wants to know what her friends really think about this, and she's sick of being left out of things, and being lied to, or just not knowing the truth. It's obvious that they don't like the Forgeries, considering, but... does that mean they've given up on her and Azami too? If they had the chance, would they—

Would they kill her?]

Tell me.

[He shakes his head again and sighs, before leaning back to stare at the ceiling. He should know better than to keep things from Aoko...]

Ganta-kun, Kudo, Ran-san and I are the ones who decided to try and rescue the Forgeries. A few others like Minatsuki and Chaplin decided to help us last minute. I think Shiro-chan said... something to reach them. Somehow.

[he pauses]

The others would rather see all the Forgeries dead.

I thought so. [It's not even our fault, but...

She's glad that at least some of them want to help, though. She didn't really expect Minatsuki, Chaplin and the others to; after all, she's heard about the "trauma" incident, and they were the main ones involved... She's happy that her friends will help her - or at least, help Kaito help her - even after what the Forgeries did.

She sits there quietly and stares at the wall.]
