[And, this is a very non-canon Shinichi, to be seen floating cross-legged with his eyes shut in the middle of the lobby.  If you've seen the Star Wars prequels, you might recognise the brown Jedi robes and leather tunic as being padawan wear, and most notably for his rank, the braid that hung down over his shoulder onto his front.

After just a moment hovering there, he opens his eyes with a snap and falls to the floor with a rather undignified thump.  He's starting to look worried.]

Stars, it's as though everyone just... disappeared.  [Cue pacing around, not really taking anything in, but he's still talking to uh, himself.  Or the Force.  Take your pick.  You might also be able to recognise the familiar-looking metal cylinder bumping against his leg.]  Of course, I didn't feel them die, they simply vanished, not... and aside from that, I can feel a whole load of people here, too...

(ooc: This is a free verse, so feel free to play around in the sandbox - I'm still testing it out, and I what I write up here and in the character journal are mostly all I've got on it.  Have fun~)

Araide? Where I am from, there is a Healer with that name. If they are at all similar, I am sure you will do well as soon as you come of age.

[A pause, before he goes off into a Shinichi-style rant explanation on the Force.]

The Force is an energy field that surrounds all living things, and is what gives a Jedi his or her power. It penetrates us, binds the galaxy together, and guides us in all things, even if we don't know or trust in it, but if we do trust in the Force, then all things are possible. It is the duty of the Jedi to maintain peace in the galaxy.

[Conan listens seriously to the other's explanation, nodding thoughtfully -- it is different, but it makes a sort of sense.] I do not think we know of the Force. Araide-sensei was a healer once, but is a priest now and it is in that he wishes to teach me.

[He pauses, then decides that it is only fair the other knows the risks.] This mansion is a place of great strangeness. It is said to be a place between worlds; and no one knows who its owners are or what they might do.

[Shinichi nods, but only vaguely.] Both great responsibilities, I'm sure.

I shall have to take that to heart, then. You say there are others? How many others? This does not seem to be a place given over to fear and hatred, at least...

...A strange place indeed. The only Ran that I know of is a girl, and where I am from she does not hold as much authority as I suspect you imply she does where you live.

There certainly seem to be. [He looks around as he says it, outwardly calm but rather unnerved on the inside.] But the hunger of Younglings doesn't seem to be one of them. C'mon, if you've been here this long, then surely there should be somewhere to find something for you to eat...?

[Conan glances at the corridors leading out of the lobby, sizing them up. Food is very important in the offering of hospitality so it would make sense that it would be somewhere off the larger and grander of the two corridors. He looks at his companion to see if he agrees.] That way?

[Since he's new and so doesn't know anything much about the Mansion at all, he agrees to follow the boy in the hope that he'd know more than Shinichi. After all, Conan's been there longer, right?]

[Been here longer, yes. But he's also been in disgrace, spending much of that time sitting outside Ran-neesama's door waiting to be forgiven. It's pure luck that the hallway they've chosen leads to the dining room and kitchen.]

One becomes a padawan in much the same way that one would become chosen by a Master in any other trade - Master Sae Tu saw me in the Temple and chose to train me.

Because I live there. All Jedi have rooms at the Temple. Although now, I spend more time journeying around the galaxy with my Master than I do at home...

[Shinichi is getting considerably more interest.] Are you an orphan? Or did your parents lose you too?

Those brought up by the Jedi are taken from their families from a young age to learn the ways of the Force.

[He doesn't sound all that bothered by this, but is on the other hand bothered by what Conan is saying. The child was lost?]

You are a foster-child? Or apprenticed that young? [Conan, meanwhile, is more curious than bothered.

As the hall opens on to many doors he pauses. Open them all and risk disturbing powerful spirits? Or --

He pauses, sniffing the air delicately. After a moment's thought, he points to the second door on the left.] I think that one.

[He laughs.] The judgement of the nose - so very rarely wrong when it comes to food!

[Has he done something wrong or not? Conan hesitates, looking uncertainly at the other.]

[Slightly confused at that, as Shinichi had only meant it as a lighthearted joke. So, feeling Conan's hesitation, he goes ahead and opens the door, expecting to find food.

It should be... I don't see how anyone could be offended. It would be worse to let the food go to waste, no?
