[Today, the kitchen/dining area is occupied by a different flavor of Kaito, who has five cards strewn out in a line on the table before him, each one face down. He's reaching out and flipping them over to reveal the faces in random order, before he turns them over again.

Ace of spades, queen of hearts, four of diamonds, ten of clubs, two of hearts, and back to the ace which has mysteriously been transformed to a king of diamonds.

He continues this random pattern for a while, the five cards on the table changing their faces each time he flips them over.

Until he stops suddenly and lifts a card up to frown at it]

... damn it, this wasn't supposed to be a Jack, it was supposed to be another ace.

[he sighs and mumbles to himself as he collects the five cards and produces the rest of the deck from (seemingly) nowhere to shuffle it]

Might as well try again.

[Even the best magicians need practice]

[And, of course, an audience. Have an Aoko poking her head in the door, drawn by the muttering]

Eh?

[oh, just the person she was looking for!]

Kaito!

[good, he can take her home, she was in the middle of making dinner when this place snatched her :|]

[the voice registers almost immediately as familiar, but he doesn't look up from his sleight-of-hand game]

Hang on, Aoko.

[he will get it riiiiight this time]

[enters the room, peering at the cards]

What are you doing?

Practicing.

[his answer is a little curt, only because he doesn't want to mess up again]

[she's about to ask "Practicing what?" but thinks twice about it, closes her mouth, and folds her hands behind her back while she watches]

[He continues to flip the cards, and after a few moments--]

Damn it! [and he tosses one down on the table, hard] That wasn't right either!

[jumps, startled, at his outburst]

What are you trying to do?

[draws closer to see]

[lets her, as he flips over a card, and then flips it again to change it's face]

Trying to cycle through the entire deck, but I keep getting some of the cards mixed up.

The same ones?

No, different ones. It's annoying.

What's so hard about it?

It's not hard. It's just complicated.

Do you have to remember where all of them are?

Yeah. [he starts picking up his cards and shuffling them again] I lose track sometimes.

I don't think I could do it. [sits down next to him at the table to watch, her chin propped in her hands]

Sure you could, if you practiced enough. [and he's flipping cards again]

You think so?

Do you want to learn or something?

Maybe!

[he gestures to a chair next to him with a grin]

Sit down, I'll teach you.

[she was already sitting, so we will assume he just said the last bit |D]

How long have you been practicing this?

[oh that works]

About an hour. I think I've almost got it.

Just an hour?!

[blink blink]

Er, yeah, why?
