"KAITO!" And there's a Conan, one who looks to be about eleven, shouting in the DR.

"Bastard, I know you're nearby! This is getting old!"

He's a very irritated Conan at that. He's standing in the lobby, looking around at all those little nooks and crannies that any Kaito would just love to hide in to avoid someone who isn't quite used to tracking down his hiding spot.

That puzzles Conan. "You know someone lucky?"

A pause.

"I thought you already knew Kaito? You don't know he's got enough luck in him that he could probably clean out Ran during cards?"

"Know of him. Met him for the first time here -- or at least first time I really remember. We played together as kids?"

Why the pause?

Because there were two people with abnormally good luck that he knew and Conan had shown to known both, but this explains it.

"Ah, well, we met back home. He's a classmate of Hakuba's."

"Of Hakuba's? That's interesting."

"Yeah. They've got a bit of a love hate relationship between them," Conan said and smirked. "Almost like Hattori and Hakuba."

Conan's smirk abruptly disappeared. "There's a lot of Hakuba here -- and all connected to Kaito in some way."

Conan looked amused at that. "I already said they were classmates. Hakuba also had a bit of a thing for Nakamori-chan supposedly. It's not that surprising, is it?"

Especially when Hakuba was always chasing Kaitou Kid.

"Not surprising," Conan agreed. Just annoying.

He shook himself mentally, reminded himself that it was an irrational reaction. It wasn't even his world--

"Anything you want to know about this place that I might be able to help you with?"

Conan raised an eyebrow, looking curious. "You seem annoyed by it. Why's that?"

Conan thought for a moment. "A nexus where you can meet counterparts of yourself and apparently of others of people we know. That's the main point, right?"

Conan shrugged. "It's nothing."

"Yes, but be careful. Not everyone is how we know them, apparently."

"Is it really?" Conan asked, crossing his arms, not looking convinced.

"You mean where some are apparently different genders?"

"Hakuba's just not really my favourite person right now."

"That." Conan frowned. "And more. There's apparently a Kid here who kills. He's managed to hurt more than a few people. And one of us is dead."

"What did he do? Figure you out?" Conan asked. His Hakuba all, but said he did. Not that Conan was going to go and confirm that. Hakuba was suspicious about too much as it was.

That...that had hit Conan like a ton of bricks, the shock obvious on his face. "A...a Kaitou Kid who...and he killed a version of us...?" He was looking pretty pale at that thought.

Conan shook his head. "It's not important," he said loftily.

He hadn't expected quite that reaction to his bombshell and is eyeing his counterpart worriedly. "I don't know if he killed that version of us," he said. "But he's definitely hurt some of the Aoko's, one of the Hakuba's. Ran says he goes by 1412, and that he should not be faced alone."

"You're talking to an alternate of yourself. You really think a trick like that will work?" Conan asked.

"He...but you said one of us was dead!" Conan said, confusion added to the shock. Perhaps saying someone was a killer before saying someone was dead wasn't the best idea.

"No, but I'm hoping I'll take the hint," Conan said dryly.

It probably doesn't help that this Conan is also confused. "Two different cases," he said. "At least, from what I've heard. I've not been here long enough to give a first hand account of either."

Conan paused and chuckled sheepishly. "Ah, sorry, but after everything, it's hard not to be curious."

"So...he might not have..." Conan muttered, crossing his arms, frowning deeply. "At least there might be that..." It was clear that the idea of Kaitou Kid was very disturbing to him.

More so than usual, at any rate. "So only goes by the number and believed to be dangerous? Considering Kid's skill, that's no surprise. If he wanted to hurt people, there's quite a number of ways he could before anyone realized."

"I know the feeling." The grin is wry -- no harm done. Conan's actually enjoying talking to someone in the same boat as him -- and there's more than a few things he's curious about too.

Conan nodded. "There's got to be more to it than that. The first person who told me about him -- shut down pretty fast when I started asking about it. And Ran -- Ran acts like I'm going to charge off by myself to try and catch him."

"Because most would want too. A killer is one thing, but for the killer to be Kaitou Kid, the one opponent where death isn't an expected concern..." Conan said and shook his head. "Who was the first person you asked?"

"The Conan who is Conan. He was -- one of those hurt."

Conan was silent for several moments before he nodded. "It makes sense. If that aspect stayed the same, that Edogawa Conan is Kid's 'natural rival,' then it would be traumatic. I would imagine he saw Kid as a playmate. To have it turn serious, it's no wonder he shut down about it." After all, that had been what he thought when he first heard about Kid, when he couldn't remember himself. Someone to play with.

It kind of was the same now that he let himself admit. Though that was something he kept to himself. "I wonder if 1412 knew he was a child or not. if he thought it was Kudo Shinichi, it's one thing, but if not, it says how much he's lost it."

Conan nodded, adding "You can forget when you're talking to him that he's -- really a little kid. The way he talks -- it's mature, and he's used to this place." He'd misjudged the situation, something he still felt bad about.

"Really?" Now that...that is really odd. "Did you have to confirm he was Conan?"

"No. It's -- well, you haven't had to confirm I'm me, have you? It's like that."
