Nine minutes, thirty-one seconds.

[one hand is in his pocket, fingering the pocketwatch there, keeping track of the time he's been in the dressing room. His gaze is restless as he looks around, keeping a constant lookout for movement, for a person - or people - as he explores]

[he looks just like any Saguru you might meet at a crossroads. Perhaps the shadows under his eyes are a little darker than normal, but he's probably just had a few late nights chasing a thief]

Seven months? That is odd. [Shinichi takes off the baseball cap with a wry smirk -- he cannot win, can he?] Only been six for me.

[Saguru blinks and swallows nausea - death has been far too close as of late]

[he visibly pulls himself together, casting a glance over Shinichi, looking for inaccuracies]

How is this even possible? [he gestures helplessly] Please tell me you are simply joking.

Really? But that means -- when did it happen? Is the case solved?

[Sorry, Hakuba. Ghost's excitement is probably doing nothing for your stomach. And by the way, he does look remarkably like a corpse if you ignore the moving around and talking to you part.]

Mind over matter! And I don't joke about cases.

[he closes his eyes briefly and inhales - his eyes open with a renewed focus. If he can deal with 1412, then a dead Shinichi will not phase him.]

Yes, case closed. I wasn't present myself, but it was discovered that a police officer was jealous of Kudo Yuusaku - blaming Yuusaku-san for stealing credit that he should have gained. He took revenge in the easiest way avaliable to him, since Yuusaku-san was out the country.

Your father was the main impetus behind the quick solving of the murder.

A police officer? [ Shinichi knows they have contacts within the police force, that they're capable of feats of infiltration that have to be seen to be believed, but this is too different ... ] Maybe they're not related.

[That's more for himself than for Hakuba, Shinichi frowning as he runs what the other detective's told him against his father's actions in his world -- you can't expect Yuusaku to sit back when his son's been murdered, but solving it so easily ... yes, that rankles. Shinichi pauses as something occurs to him.] Yuusaku-san? You know my father then?

Not very well. We've met a few times during meetings for 1412's latest announcement. Yuiko-san requested I call them both by their first names.

[a slight pause]

It was... not long after they had lost you. [perhaps that influenced it? he's still not quite sure why they insisted on it]

[This is -- strangely discomforting. Shinichi thinks back to the first few days after his death when he was still too disjointed to be visible to even the few people able to see him.]

Probably because she sounds younger that way.

[Pause.]

You called him 1412.

[slight pause, also]

Yes, I did.

[mildly surprised - why is this being brought up? surely Shinichi knows the most common name for the assassin]

Is that a problem?

It is if we're talking about the same 1412. Assasin? Never went by 'The Kaitou Kid'?

...'The Kaitou Kid'? [he shakes his head slowly, feeling an almost hysterical amusement at the concept]

1412 is most emphatically not a thief.

[his expression is startled - and there is a touch of unholy fascination before he clamps down on it]

Here? How? The same way I simply 'found' myself here?

And- where, exactly, is 'here' in the first place?

[Now that was interesting -- but what was it?]

[Shinichi glances down the corridor.] Apparently it's some sort of mansion that spans worlds.

[shakes his head]

Just please tell me he has not been here long enough to make an announcement of his 'boredom'.

Or that there is an easy way to leave.

Not yet -- he's been keeping himself occupied.

[The ghost turns, ready to head down the corridor.] If it was easy, it wouldn't be interesting would it?

Kudo-san, what has he been doing?

[pauses to answer Hakuba's question.] He's injured two people that I know of. It wouldn't surprise me if there were more.

I would not be surprised, either. [he frowns, then snaps in sudden concern, his voice rough]

He hasn't made a contract with anyone?

[and he hates himself, but some of that concern is for 1412, because to go so long without a contract or a death means the madness grows, and boredom rises - and some terrible, intricate game will unfold, leaving 1412 weak and shaking at the cumulation of it, bodies scattered in his wake]

He tried to take one from me. I don't know how binding he'll consider it.

Whilst I can appreciate that you may not have known what you were doing, that does not excuse sentencing a whole organisation of people to death!

[Shinichi's not arguing that, nope.]

I'm not trying to excuse it. In fact, I'd rather like to stop him.

You can't.

Once he has a contract, that person will die. It's just a matter of time.

[looks at Shinichi steadily]

And I say that as the leading expert on 1412 - those people will die.
