The worst thing about having a broken leg, Conan decided, was that it was impossible to open some doors in the mansion. He wanted to go outside and naturally, the handles on the massive lobby doors were just out of his reach.

"Here."

The door is pushed open and Ran smiles down at Conan. "You were wanting to go outside, right?"

"Thank you." A relieved exhalation. "I thought I'd never be able to get out."

"Someone would have come along, sooner or later," Ran assured him. "I just happened to be the first." She has a bag slung over one shoulder, toiletries and towel just visible within. "Where are you heading?"

He considered the question for a moment. "Out?"

"Out?" Ran blinks. It can't be much fun going for a walk with that cast on. Then again, neither would be cooped up inside the mansion. "I'm headed to the onsen. Do you want to walk with me, or happier exploring by yourself?"

"I didn't even know we had an onsen."

"Really? Not often I get to teach you anything," Ran teased. "Though I imagine an onsen wouldn't be much good for your cast."

"At least this way I'll know where it is!"

"That's true. So, you'll walk with me?"

"Of course!"

Ran smiled. "Thank you ... I'm the Ran from the world with superheroes, by the way. Which Conan are you?"

"Superheroes?" He gapes at her for a moment, Conan-mask perfectly in place. "I think my world's pretty normal, so I guess I'm just the Conan-with-the-broken-leg for now."

"Hopefully you won't have to be that Conan very long," Ran said, apparently accepting Conan's reaction to her description of her world as not needing any comment. "How long has it been?"

"What kind of superheroes? And it's only been a week, so I won't get it off for a while."

"The kind with powers and secret identities," Ran explained. "They fight crime and super villains. Your world doesn't have any?" She made a face. "That's too bad. My Conan would have gone nuts after a week."

"No, it doesn't. That's really cool!" He makes a face. "I think I did. Why else would I be trying to go on a walk in the fog with this kind of handicap?"

"Cool is one word," Ran said making a face -- which turns into a smile as she realises she's unconsciously echoed Conan. Amazing how at home she feels with any Shinichi. If he is a Shinichi, Ran reminds herself, though his next words make her almost certain he is. "That's a good point. Though if you were waiting for the fog to lift you'd be out of luck. It's been like this since the first time I got here."

"I was here a couple months ago. It was snowing then." Because that obviously had a lot to do with the conversation.

"January? That's a long time -- you've gone home since, right?"

Have a 'Ran I know you're not that stupid' look.

"I just got this cast on last week. The most the infirmary has for something like this is a splint."

"Really?" Ran reconsiders. She's never had cause to become acquainted with broken bones (itself unusual given her background in martial arts). "I thought it looked pretty well stocked ... but then I've never been inside a hospital to compare against."

"Not unless it got stocked better since 1412 nearly broke my wrist."

"You're that Conan? He's -- really a villain then?" Nothing slow about Ran's response here.

"He knifed me, tried to break my wrist, broke three of my ribs, and knocked me out." Pretty self-explanatory. He wasn't going to mention that he had instigated the fight.

Knifed him-- and Conan said he didn't need protecting. Ran mentally resolved to stop complaining about the bugs. Far far better that Conan could contact her whenever he needed -- even better if she got a hold of one of his locators herself ... "What differentiates him in appearance from other Kids?"
