Walking through the hallways slowly, though not without a destination in mind, Hakuba Saguru was deep in thought. Obviously many years older than another Saguru, this one was in his late thirties and using a cane to support his left leg as he walked. His dress was reminiscent of an english professor; tweed jacket, tan pants and a shirt set off by a dark brown tie. And a mostly hidden bulge under his left arm, from a gun in a shoulder holster.

Someone perceptive (or intrusive) enough to notice the ragged scar tissue on his right wrist, mostly hidden by his sleeve, might connect this Saguru to the one who used to wander the mansion attached to 1412.

"Indeed." And not a mention that 'Kid' -- that 1412 -- had been even more insane than Shinichi.

"If you'd excuse me, I don't like to spend too long standing still." A vague gesture towards his injured knee for explanation, and Hakuba moved to a nearby door, concentrating upon comfortable chairs for the room he wanted.

"Ah, right," Conan said, but still following him to the room. "But why Kid?"

Hakuba headed for a chair, easing himself down and situating his knee comfortably before answering.

"He proved himself enough of--" a brief flicker of pain across his face. "--a nuisance to deserve killing."

"A nuisance? Was he running interference?" Conan asked. He noticed the pain, but curiosity...

Well, it was weird to think there was perhaps a world where there was a role reversal.

"Something of the sort." Getting in the way of Kudo's kills, eager to be fought time and time again by his 'rival'...

"The memories are somewhat... raw, even now," he murmured, looking tired and a little enbittered. He had been by the assassin's side longer, and yet 1412 had chosen the brat as his 'rival'.

And Conan...looked apologetic at that. "I'm sure you're dealing with it admirably," he said. "I've been working a lot with the Hakuba-niisan in my world for a rather...stressful case. It's kind of the opposite in my world."

"1412 is a murderer there?" Hakuba looked vaguely interested, careful to keep a lid on the majority of it, not wanting to upset the applecart of lies he'd built.

"..." Conan paused at that. "...so you're from that world. So they're both mad," he said.

"He is. He went totally mad. And not just him...Aoko-san went and followed him and it's become a whole mess," he said with a sigh. "We're the only two who can keep up with either of them anymore. Sometimes Hattori helps whenever he has the time, but...well, he's never had personal ties to the case as we did. So it's mostly us."
