There is, in a hallway, a small child. He looks to be about seven years old. He looks to be a Kaito. He also looks rather confused and lost and startled.

He isn't going to introduce himself as Kuroba Kaito though, and he isn't going to be performing any magic tricks for you.

"That's got to be cheating somehow."

"I learned from the best," Aoko said with a smirk. "Would it help to say I also already know about the Kaitou Kid thing?"

"So, did you murder your version of me when you found out?"

Aoko held up a hand, index finger and thumb close together. "That close to doing so. Instead, Aoko decided to ignore him for a few months until she got hit by a car and he kept her from being a science experiment. So I decided to forgive him."

"You got hit by a car."

"That's right." Aoko said and paused. "Oh, right...that sounds pretty bad...well, um, it wasn't because...I found out about Kaitou Kid on the night of the comet. Because I got taken with Pandora and Kaito rescued me that night and we kind of got the tears on us."

Oh. [And Poker Face is up in full force.] I was trying to keep you away from that, Ahoko.

A flat look in return. "Bakaito. You think Aoko wouldn't have gotten so mad at Kaitou Kid one day she wouldn't act like the detectives and go after you? It...just happened to be the wrong heist to do it."

Aoko sighed. "Either way...well, we're not dead because of it. We both got shot while escaping."

Ah. The glasses. Things are making more sense now. Good. "'Edogawa'? So Conan-kun told you about this case? Could you tell me about it?"

It was probably that case at the Koshien or at Sunset Mansion and little Maurice had gotten his facts mixed up. But from Saguru's experience with Conan, he wasn't so sure if he should so easily believe that - stop that. Just take the facts as they come, lad.

Frown. "Why? That's cruel."

He hadn't actually expected Pandora to do anything. But all right. Okay.

"How long ago was that?"

... Hakuba you're an idiot. Either that, or something was very very wrong. Not either/or. Both/and. That worked better. Hakuba was and idiot and something was very wrong.

"Niisan didn't tell me about the case. I was there."

Saguru was not an idiot and there is nothing wrong with him. 8|

The detective nods. "Tell me about it."

Something was wrong, but he could humour the detective.

"We were walking home from school, and there was a dead body." One that fell from the sky even. And no Hattori in sight. "The victim was related to a case you were working on, so you got involved."

"Me and Niisan in the same place would just be too much pressure on the people we're staying with. So they split us up, usually."

Saguru frowns a little. "Well I'm sorry to say you must have had me confused with someone else. I have honestly never met you before this day, Maurice."

"I don't think so. You were wearing a really ugly suit, so I remembered it."

He coughs.

"I don't remember any of this. And I have never worked with the Shonen Tantei."

Strange child and all these ideas ...

"You thought I looked like somebody named Kaito. And you asked if I was a magician."

Eyebrow raise. "You're Conan Edogawa's brother. And I don't see myself asking if you were a magician."

There is really no point in this conversation. It wasn't like Saguru could change Maurice's mind. Perhaps it was time to distract and change topics. Saguru looks around.

"You did though. You said," and a horrid imitation of Hakuba's accent, "'two detectives in the family?' and I said 'no', and you said, 'a magician then?' and I said 'no, why?', and you said 'nothing, you just look like someone I used to know'."

A deep intake of breath, having run out in his rapid explanation. "And that's what happened."

"...over seven and a half centuries. I'm 800 in either a decade or a little over one."

.... Oh. Oh.

"Ahoko."

"It's not my fault! You were the one who kept it a secret. How was I supposed to know it was anything, but a pretty rock?!"

"Maybe the fact that I was keeping it a secret?"
