[for pansbox and police_daughter~]

After the incident with Kaito - stupid boy with a stupid name - 1412 was in the infirmary, but only because it was convenient. He would rather have holed up in a bedroom and let himself heal, but he kept bleeding everywhere. So he'd locked the door and made do.

His jacket and cape were off, lying bloody and torn on the floor, shirt following after and draped over the end of a counter. The assassin himself sat a little further on from the shirt, a few rolls of bandages next to him. He was slowly winding a half-used roll around and over the gashes on his chest, a constant litany of muttering under his breath as he worked.

"-stupid boy, shouldn't... Why did he...? Idiot! Mine mine, how dare he? ...shouldn't have done that, oh no, shouldn't, gonna make him paaaay~ Idiot, idiot, idiot stupid Kaito person-"

Kaito's grip on Aoko's arm didn't loosen at all, nor did he respond to 1412's taunting. He knew that the assassin was just trying to get him riled up, and although it stirred a bit of annoyance in him, he managed to keep it down by clinging tightly to his well-worn poker face.

"Aoko," he said as he jerked his head at 1412's hand, "Look what he's carrying. Don't be an idiot."

"He won't hurt me," Aoko retorted, though there was a note of uncertainty in her tone. He already had, after all. But it wasn't just up to the assassin -- she wasn't going to let him hurt her again either, not if she had anything to say about it.

Kaito voiced Aoko's silent concerns.

"He did once already."

And he still refused to let go.

"And I won't let him do it again," Aoko retorted firmly, though quietly, so that the 1412 was less likely to hear. She didn't want him to consider it a challenge. "Kaito, please."

It was such a little thing that she almost didn't know why she was arguing over it. She should just listen to Kaito, let him pull her away and leave 1412 to himself. He was right -- the assassin wasn't helpless, and could easily get it himself.

But there was something else going on here, she was sure. She couldn't put her finger on how, exactly, or for what, but it felt like 1412 was... testing her.

Test or no test, Kaito was a stubborn person, particularly about things he knew he had a right to be stubborn about.

"No, Aoko," he said, ignoring 1412's own pleas. He tugged at her arm again, this time attempting to lead her to the door, "Let's just go."
moptothehead: (Bakaito!)

Aoko yanked back harder, trying to get her arm free. She could be just as stubborn as Kaito, and had the temper to go with it.

Externally she didn't react to the assassin's stabbing motion, but internally it made her flinch. She rounded on him next. "Don't you start."

When 1412 moved, Kaito tugged again on Aoko's arm, this time drawing her back so she was partially behind him. The position the assassin was in wasn't particularly threatening, but Kaito was beyond taking chances with him. He didn't care if Aoko was being tested or if 1412 supposedly liked her or if he was ultimately exacerbating things. He still remembered finding Aoko stumbling drearily through the hallways with her wrist broken and bruised.

And he wasn't about to let anything worse happen.
moptothehead: (are you sure you're all right?)

Aoko stumbled as Kaito drew her back, peeking at the assassin from over his shoulder. "Kaito, he started bleeding again," she pointed out plaintively, ignoring 1412's question for now.

Kaito didn't need to be told twice. He had been trying to get out of that room all along, after all.

"Our pleasure," he hissed back, tugging one last time on Aoko's arm to pull her toward the door again, "We've done the best we can for him, Aoko, let's go."

She was going to be angry with him for this. He'd probably have to sit through a long tirade on how stubborn he was and how it wouldn't have hurt for her to get close to him. Maybe she would be right, but at this point, he didn't care.

He just wanted out. He was not a killer and he never would be, and he was tired of looking into his own face and seeing nothing but madness.

Surely Aoko would understand... right?
moptothehead: (eeeeeh?)

Aoko jumped reflexively when the makeshift senbon thudded into the wall a scant thumb's width from her ear, making it easier for Kaito to drag her back a few stumbling steps before she dug her heels into the carpet.

No, not now! It had been so hard to get 1412 to trust her in the first place. If they just left like this--

"Kaito, let go!" she demanded, yanking hard on her arm without thinking, without stopping to reason.

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-04-08 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a flash of movement at the corner of his vision, and Kaito is forced to finally release Aoko's arm in order to avoid being struck by the makeshift senbon. He stumbles a bit-- so very unlike his normally composed demeanor, taken off guard by both Aoko's insistence that she stay (why won't she listen) and 1412's advancements. The weapon whizzes past him (nicking the edges of his clothing on the way), embedding itself in the wall behind with a soft 'thud.' He doesn't turn to face it.

Instead, his attention is now focused on 1412, hand now in his pockets searching for his card gun as he almost immediately recovers from his earlier stumble. It's a harmless weapon, not meant to hurt or injure, but if he's lucky 1412 won't know that.
moptothehead: (can't forgive someone like that)

Things were going downhill fast.

So of course, Aoko's first instinct was to step between the two young men, arms wide to block either of them from getting a clear shot at the other. "Both of you stop it!"

It was stupid and dangerous, and she knew it. But she couldn't just stand aside and let them attack each other. Not 1412, not when she'd already seen him so hurt and vulnerable, and not Kaito, who she'd give almost anything to protect.
