...This is never going to end, is it? Sheesh, it's like I'm just wandering aimlessly.

[ Flips his phone open for a second, sighs, and begins to send a text message on it. ]

She's probably busy. I know I shouldn't bother her but ...I think I really need directions at this point.

[ Text, Text, Text. He's oblivious to the world around him as he makes an error here and there, erases them, and rewrites the sentences in a more cohesive manner. ]

[Well, here is a familiar face! Shinichi quickly checks that the baseball cap he's wearing is pulled down to cover his bullet wound. He's not sure that Takagi will be able to see him -- pale, dressed in a black suit and looking like he's just come from a funeral -- as he waves hopefully.]

I- Y-Yeah, you could say that. It's been pretty hectic without someone like you around! We're managing, it's really not so bad. How's that case going?

Life goes on? [There's a bit of wistfulness to that, but you could easily think you'd imagined it.]

[ Stops now, notices something seems... off in Shinichi, at least from the last time they crossed paths ]

[ pauses ] You shouldn't stress yourself out on a case, you do look a little pale- it won't do anyone any good if you're too tired to deduce a situation properly.

[It is nice to be acknowledged, even worried about and Shinichi's grin is much more himself.]

Don't worry about me. Worry about what Officer Sato's going to say when you're late to your briefing.

[ Takagi's mood drops suddenly as he sighs, his shoulders hunch over as he stares at his phone again. ]

There isn't much I can do about it now, I'll just have to pay the price for my disobedience at this rate...

... Know of any good, cheap restaurants?

[Takagi's obvious worry squelches Shinichi's triumph at his deduction quite effectively. ]

Good, yes. But cheap -- no. Not unless ... well, the Tenbou restaurant'd remember you from the murder case too, wouldn't they? Who knows, you might get a discount. Lucky Sato wasn't on that case!

A discount? I'm starting to lose track of places that haven't had a murder case happen to them.

[ Thinks for a moment... ] Do you really keep track of our cases while you're gone, Kudou-kun? I know you're a diligent worker, but most teenagers your age would find this kind of stuff boring, right?

Sometimes I feel I could count the days I haven't seen a dead body in some capacity on one hand.

[Laughs, a little awkwardly but he's getting practiced at this.] I'm not most teenagers! Even before I was solving my own cases, I was pouring over the crime reports in the papers.

Oh, hey! Have you spoken to Ran-san? She always seems to be looking for you, maybe you should take a break from your cases and see her once in a while.
