[It's early, very early in the morning — or perhaps very late at night, depending on your sleeping habits — when the first of the Mansion's inhabitants are pulled out of their pre-dawn slumber.

At first it's hard to tell what, exactly, roused you. It's still dark. Quiet, isn't it? Except for the sounds of other sleepy occupants.

Except... something seems off about that shuffling. That moaning doesn't quite sound like a person having restless dreams. The noises are increasing in number by the minute... and are they coming from outside?

Those wary enough to grope for a weapon will find one comes easily to hand — the Mansion isn't leaving anyone unarmed tonight. And one look outside a window is all it takes to convince you that you'll be needing it.

From the forest fog, the hordes are advancing.]

[Some people in the mansion are used to zombies.

People like this particular Hakuba, whose first reaction to the gathering hordes was to begin building a fairly impressive-looking trap just inside of the main entry doors. Water to slow the zombies down, and dispensers full of arrows to shoot them until they fall apart. It works in his world.

The question is should anyone trust a Hakuba wearing a full outfit (including helmet and boots) made of what looks like faintly glowing diamonds.]

[not... even going to question those arrow traps, though she does judge their angle of attack with a critical eye]

Is water really going to help?

[tying her hair back and then checking a number of weapons as she approaches, including knives, a couple of firearms, ammunition clips... she certainly seems comfortable with them]

It does in my world. Ideally, the flowing water knocks them back and slows them down, and the dispensers shoot them until they fall apart. Obviously, it's not a perfect system, but it should provide some protection.

[Hakuba's less well-armed, but he has two glittering diamond swords and a variety of unusual bottles full of strangely colored liquids, along with a backpack that's significantly larger on the inside.]

I haven't run into any in my world, but in the movie water never seems to do much. Is their balance really that bad?

Yes. Or, at least the ones I'm used to can be managed with a trap like this.

[It's like three blocks deep okay. The zombies will totally drown.]

Diamond sword, unbreaking, smite five, fire aspect two. Diamond sword, unbreaking, sharpness five, looting two. The armor's all enchanted diamond as well.

Splash potions of slowness and harming, though the harming potions won't do any good against undead.

And a variety of pickaxes, shovels, shears, a few stacks of cobblestone, some torches, and some other things.

It means that this particular blade is enchanted to do more damage to undead creatures.

That's useful. [maybe she can convince the Mansion to cough one up from a closet or something] Does fire have any effect on zombies in your world? We should probably try and prevent them from getting as far as the door...

[some other people in the Mansion are also used to zombies, though their tactics for dealing with them are drastically different. Conan doesn't even take a moment to be grateful for the fact that his group had continued their night patrols — there's only room for action, and in an instant he's slipping the safety from his gun, running towards the great main doors, and snapping warnings into his badge transmitter all at once]

[he's already running over breach and defense scenarios in his mind, cursing the size of the Mansion and the number of occupants it has — it's going to be impossible to protect everyone here]

Rather than searching for a weapon, Ran-kun's initial reaction (after waking up nervous, looking outside, and letting out a suspiciously shrill yelp) is to find things to barricade his bedroom door and window with.

[just a sec, there's more sputtering than usual going on here as he gets up onto his elbows]

Now, would you like me to tell you how to completely avoid all the zombies?

[this Aoko doesn't know all that much about zombies, but she does know something about how to avoid attracting the attention of enemies. She keeps her bedroom door open a crack so she can hear every passing sound while she scrambles into her clothes in the dark, intently keeping an eye on the monsters through the window as they advance, and trying not to think too hard about the fact that she's preparing for a zombie invasion.

She can only hope they stay that slow and shambling]
