[It's been a while, mansion.

Kaitou KID grins, monocle catching light that isn't there, eyes shadowed by the brim of his hat. He's in a study, one that should have been on the thirtieth or so floor, but is now on the second. There are piles and piles of items scattered through the study, sorted out by owner. Mounds of things that don't belong to him, bowties and wristwatches, loose change and wallets, gems and carved statues.

[this older, scarred Aoko, wearing Victorian dress, takes one look at the room and doesn't even bother with a greeting. She just sighs and starts poking through the piles with a sharp eye]

[ digging up a leather-bound book with sharp, eerily twisting sigils on the cover, and gives him an unimpressed look ]

You should be more careful about what you take to line your pockets. Some of it can be detrimental to your health.

[ though whether he looked at the cover long enough for his eyes to begin itching when he stole it is uncertain... on second thought, looking at him now, she's not entirely sure he has eyes ]

Oh, I'm sure it can. [Thankfully, the monocle is possessive enough to protect him from other possible oddities.]

I suppose I shouldn't expect any of you to be the cautious sort.

[ already looking around for anything more of hers. She had quite a number of knickknacks in her lodgings that could easily go missing. Jade, glim, fourth city coins, relics... ]

In a manner of speaking. London hasn't been a part of England for some time now.

[continues to poke through the piles, making sure she has everything, and keeping an eye out for any trinkets that might belong to her Kaito. She doubts he'd be stolen from given how shadowy he is, but, well. Can't be too careful. And it would be something to tease him with]

[Well, this particular Kaito can walk invisibly through walls, so who knows what he's managed to pick up.]

The Empress sold it to the Bazaar as part of a bargain. No one's certain what it was, but since then it's been London Below.

[ says that as if it should explain everything, then pauses when she realizes it doesn't ]

No one really knows what they are, but it's safe to say that whatever it is it isn't human.

[Well, Kaitou KID himself isn't quite human, so it explains a bit.]

We're not quite certain of that, either.

Well, we know some sorts, of course. There's the rubbery men, and the clay men. The devils and the soulless. Whatever it is that happens to live in the Labyrinth with the tigers. Jack, though what he is doesn't really have a proper name... [ says that with irritation, then tacks on the next item with a healthy dose of disgust (and what might, perhaps, be some tamped fear) ] ...the cantigaster and spider-councils... and of course, many people claim to know what kind of beast the Vake is, and none of them can prove it.

There's some argument over whether the tomb-colonists are still to be considered human, but I don't put much stock in it. Besides, it irritates them.
